There are several reasons you should take photos before you ship and after delivery.

  • Photos show the carrier what they’re moving. Carriers want to know what’s in your box, how big it is and how you packed it. If questions arise, a few photos can show them that all at once.

  • Photos help us get your bike and gear back on track faster. Should your label get damaged or come off your box or case in transit, causing your packages to stop tracking, the first thing we’ll ask you for is photos so we can find it more quickly in the carrier system.

  • Every parcel in every shipment with Bikeflights comes with $100 worth of Premium Protection, or more if you purchased it (up to $20,000 optionally available). In the event that you need to file a claim, you’ll be asked for photos, which are really difficult or impossible to get after the fact. Having taken photos up front means you’ve already got them all set and ready to submit should you ever need to.

Before you pack your bike and your gear, spend five minutes photographing it. Shoot the whole bike from several angles and get close-ups of components. These help you answer any questions from the carrier about what you’re shipping, and they serve as the baseline for your bike’s condition before it was shipped.

Don’t stop there: take pics of your packed bike before you seal your box or case showing your careful packing job. Finish it off with shots of the outside of your box or case confirming its measurements and that it’s ready to go: fully sealed, properly labeled and free of hazmat and battery included warnings. Photos are quick and easy to take on your phone, and you can delete them if you don’t end up needing them.
