Taking a few minutes to photograph your bike or gear before and after shipping is always a good idea. Photos document its condition, how it was packed and the dimensions of your box or case. They can also be helpful if you need assistance with your shipment. Here's what to photograph and when.

Before you pack: Photograph your complete bike or gear from several angles. If shipping a bike, take close-ups of its frame, wheels, cockpit, drivetrain and other components. These photos show what you’re shipping and its condition prior to shipping.

As you pack: Take photos while you pack, showcasing how well you’ve protected and secured your frame, wheels or any other contents to keep them from shifting and contacting each other inside your box or case while in transit. These photos illustrate how you packed properly.

After you seal: Photograph your closed box or case from every side. Get a clear shot of the shipping label attached to your box or case, and capture the packed dimensions, including all bulges and any straps, handles or wheels on your case. These photos confirm your measurements and make it easier to find your package in case the label comes off in transit.

Upon delivery: Before you open it, take photos of the exterior of your box or case, noting any holes, dents, tears, markings or extra tape. Don’t worry if your box looks damaged – boxes are designed to absorb damage to keep your bike and gear safe. Keep shooting as you unpack, and visually inspect the bike or gear that you shipped.
